Approach
Seattle Autism Consulting (SAC) used the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), and positive behavior support (PBS) to provide individualized, home-based, behavioral and educational intervention for children with autism. Intervention is based on a comprehensive skills assessment, is developmentally appropriate, and tailored to the unique needs of each child and family. Depending on the needs of the child, intervention may range in level of structure, with naturalistic teaching as the constant aim. SAC is dedicated to using research-based intervention methods proven effective for children with disabilities; and specifically effective for children with autism. Data collection is very important to SAC. Data is collected throughout the learning process to track the child's progress and is used to continuously assess the program and make changes as necessary.
Seattle Autism Consulting believes that parents are key players in the intervention process and emphasizes a team approach to services. While the consultant and teaching assistants (TAs) provide much of the direct instruction to the child, it is important that parents also learn the teaching strategies and continue teaching in the home.
Above all, services must be effective and fun! SAC believes that intervention should be a rewarding and positive experience for the child. Daily therapy sessions should be full of interesting and meaningful activities aimed at effectively teaching the identified treatment goals and simply having lots of fun!
